Unexpected encounter: When a horse and a deer meet by chance

Going for a ride with your horse is definitely one of the things that a horse person enjoys doing the most especially during a day off when you have no obligations for the rest of the days. Not only riders but horses enjoy it as well as they like to explore different places and escape out of the barn’s routine. Most of the time, it turns out to be a perfect ride that you needed but there are also not very exciting scenarios like the one in the video below, which are less frequent, however,  there is a possibility for them to happen.

This is the terrifying moment a horse becomes spooked by a deer – and slips before falling over on a country road, with his rider making a lucky escape. Kate Hardt, an ex-traffic police officer, was out riding with her husband and a friend when the horse in the video, Fen, became spooked by a deer causing the horse and rider to fall.

Little did Fen expect to see a deer and as soon as he saw it, he panicked and slipped in the ground. Fen only suffered a few minor injuries, but Kate hopes this footage will raise awareness of road safety around horses – and make people realize how quickly horses can become spooked. According to the British Horse Society, there are over 3000 accidents on the roads each year involving horses.

To be honest, I didn’t expect the number to be this concerning considering the fact that such accidents are barely discussed in media and people lack the information about the reality of the road accidents that involve horses and I believe people will reflect after watching the video below. This wasn’t a serious accident as neither the horse or the rider were seriously injured but in a different situation, it could have ended worse. Also, the riders should contribute as well in situations like this. They need to avoid slippery streets and find a proper place to go for a ride with their horses. Please watch the video below and share the message with your horsey friends as well
