Crosley Model CD Two-Door – The Makes That Didn’t Make It
In the history of the auto industry, there have been many brands that came and went after a short time. One of them was Crosley, a short-lived car manufacturer from Cincinnati, Ohio. The Crosley Model CD Two-Door is a prime example of the fate of unsuccessful car brands.
Introduced in 1947, the Model CD Two-Door was a small coupe with simple but eye-catching design. It used a 26.5 horsepower inline 4-cylinder engine, mated to a 3-speed manual transmission. The car was just 3.5m long, compact for urban environments.
However, the Model CD sold poorly, with only around 750 units produced. Due to lack of capital, Crosley had to use cheap, low-quality parts. This affected the durability of the cars. High repair costs dissatisfied owners.
Finally, Crosley closed its factory in 1952 after producing just 84,000 automobiles. The Model CD Two-Door is a textbook example of how a promising brand failed due to strategic business and manufacturing mistakes. Still, the rare surviving examples today remain valuable collectibles for classic car enthusiasts.
