A Lion’s Unfortunate Selection of Elephant Prey

  • Whatsapp
We went into the bush to see a lioness on top of a baby elephant and were trying to knock it down. The lioness scratches the elephant’s thick skin – hanging up while the elephant fights against the strong pull of the lioness. After struggling for a while to get away from the lioness, the elephant struggled out of her grasp and into the bushes behind.

While all the action was going on, the cubs were lying on the tall grass watching their mother try to secure a meal, but, after an unsuccessful attack, the mother came to pick up the cubs and go. in the morning – fortunately, no harm from the encounter.

It was a case of mixed emotions and we were a bit relieved to see the baby elephant free from the lioness’s clutches, despite witnessing the hungry cubs as they waited for their mother to bring home their meal. – an opposite emotion that I feel. did not quite feel before.

For me this experience is extremely rare, never in all my years of teaching have I witnessed such an interesting relationship between elephants and lions. Often elephants will aggressively push lions away – especially when they are in a large herd. My advice to those watching in the wild, is to be careful, get in on the timing and be aware of the lioness/lion’s behavior before they attack.
