Vanessa Bryant has joined the effort to save the painting of Kobe Bryant and Gigi in Los Angeles by asking her fans to sign a petition in support of the mural.

On Thursday, the owner of the LA gym where the painting is displayed, Cecilia Moran, disclosed on Facebook that her landlord is pressuring her to remove the artwork. She said that the painting “serves as a powerful symbol of inspiration, unity, and resilience for our city” and hoped that the shopkeeper would rethink her decision.

“It is with great regret that I must tell you that I was given notice by my landlord today that the Kobe and LA mural must be removed off our walls by September 30. Moran writes on Facebook, “This mural holds immense significance not only for the city of Los Angeles and Lakers fans, but more importantly as a tribute to Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gigi.”

The mural of Kobe Bryant and Gigi Hadid has since inspired a Change.org petition to have it preserved. The petition started out with a target of 5,000 signatures and had roughly 3,800 backers as of Friday night, but it has already surpassed that goal and is now aiming for 75,000 signatures.

What will happen to the mural is unknown, but judging by the number of signatures on the petition, supporters and locals may be able to save the wonderful monument to the late Lakers icon and his daughter. Fans who want to provide support to the cause can sign the petition here.
